Virginia Community College System
Virginia Western Community College
Ducan Hall - Elevator Addition |
|
In 1990, an elevator addition was
placed in Duncan Hall, at Virginia Western Community
College campus. In addition to the 550 square foot
elevator, an elevator lobby and mechanical room were
also required. It was essential that the addition did
not compromise the existing exterior esthetics of the
building. The exterior walls were constructed of brick
to match the existing. Interior finishes included painted
masonry walls, VCT and Terrazzo floors. The addition
was roofed with a 60 mil ballasted EPDM system. |

twelve-classroom addition, and a 16,318 square foot,
gymnasiums were added to a 1950’s vintage elementary
school, which was upgraded to a middle school. The
gymnasium seats 900 for basketball and 1,000 for public

cementitious coated to harmonize with the existing
brickwork. Work in the existing school included the
provision of four new classrooms, an enlarged library,
a new HVAC system, energy-efficient fenestration, and
solar screening. Also, replacement of windows and other
