| Mr.
Cone was born on September 29, 1927, in Larned, Kansas.
He grew up in New England, principally in Hanover,
New Hampshire. After graduating from Hanover High School
in 1945, he attended Columbia University in New York
City, where he also received architectural apprenticeship
training from 1947 to 1952 from J. Fredrick Larson,
a
traditional architect of considerable renown. From
1952 to 1956, he was a design architect with Mr. Larson's
firm in Winston-Salem, N.C. From 1956 to 1963, he was
Project Manager and Architect with Larson and Larson,
Architects, in Winston-Salem. From 1963 to 1965, Mr.
Cone was an associate with Randolph Frantz and Associates,
Architects, in Roanoke, Virginia. From 1965 to 1971,
he was a Design and Project Architect with Thompson
and
Payne, Architects and Engineers, in Roanoke, Virginia.
From 1971 to 1973, Mr. Cone managed his own firm. From
1973 to 1993, he was a staff architect with the firm
of Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern, Architects and
Engineers, in Roanoke, Virginia. He is now an associate
with HDH Associates, P.C. in Christiansburg, Virginia.
