Giles
County Courthouse Renovation Project:
The project involved interior and exterior renovations with the
challenge to maintain the historical integrity of the building. This
building is listed on the Virginia Department of Historical Resources
list of protected historic buildings. The courtroom had existing
woodworking that had to be reproduced to match existing details. The
windows were replaced and the masonry was repointed. A new copper
standing seam roof was installed. New HVAC, electrical and elevator were
installed. The project received an Award of Merit in the Historic
Renovation category from the Mid Atlantic Construction Magazine (
McGraw-Hill Publication).

Satellite Center: This project involved the renovation of an elementary school
that was no longer occupied. The space was renovated to house a
satellite campus for Central Virginia Community College. The project
included an asbestos abatement that was addressed by HDH Technical. A
new mechanical system that included heating and air-condition was
designed. Electrical and pluming was upgraded to meet current building
codes and meet college requirements. The renovation included designing
for current ADA, fire and life safety requirements.

Ridges Building Envelope Investigation & Management Plan
An in-depth evaluation was directed towards such building components as
the roofs, masonry walls, windows and water proofing to define and
resolve existing problems as well as eliminate future problems,
therefore extending the service life of the buildings.
The Ridges includes
40 buildings with over 800,000 sq. ft. of floor space and constructed
within a 105-year span that started in 1874. The main building is
listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
